Getting Started If you are looking at this page you have possibly never tried endurance riding and wondering what it is all about, how long the rides are and where they are held. Endurance riding involves riding over relatively long distances and maybe at a slightly faster speed than a normal hack. You may think that you need specialist equipment or an Arab horse! You do not and can enter our pleasure rides of up to 32km/20 miles quite happily on any horse or pony and use your normal everyday tack. A typical ride will take you over varied terrain, mainly off-road on bridleways and private land, through beautiful scenery and often along private tracks where riding isn’t normally permitted. The rides are all varied so you might meet rivers or fords to cross, gates to open, difficult or hilly terrain to negotiate or miles of relatively level grassy and sandy tracks offering scope for long canters though woods or over heathland. As you gain experience, you and your horse will undoubtedly start to find out what sort of rides you both enjoy. You are guaranteed to meet new people and develop friendships and maybe new riding partnerships, as we are a very friendly bunch who all help and support each other. There are different types of ride that you can enter and progress to higher levels if you want to. Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions section for details on the different rides.
