Your First Rides It is easy to start off in endurance rides, just choose a ride, send your entry form and payment off and enjoy a lovely and well organised pleasure ride. Most people start by doing one or two pleasure, training or social rides to introduce themselves and their horses to endurance. These rides are great at giving you a taste of the type of terrain you will ride on and help to get you and your horse fitter! When we have received your entry form and payment, we will send you details on where the venue is, a map of the ride, what facilities there are at the venue and your starting time. The route is well marked out so you do not need to map read, leaving you free to complete the ride in a reasonable time of about 1 hour 10 minutes for every 10 miles. Having done a few pleasure rides, you may be quite happy continuing with these and have no desire to compete or ride higher distances. That is fine, you don’t have to! Alternatively you may want to try a competitive ride. The difference between competing and pleasure rides is that you need to complete the ride within a certain time frame and a vet will need to check your horse before and after the ride.
